Post Merdeka Post (Welcoming September)
Expecting a Merdeka-esque post aren't you?
To me, it appears that the whole concept of Merdeka has been reduced to a public holiday and/or reason for having a good time. No objections whatsoever with anyone who so wishes for that, have I.
An excuse to watch fireworks all over the city, and many an opportunity for people to earn a fast buck. Much like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.
My father would probably sum up the whole being-lucky-we-are-independent occasion by usually exclaiming how we don't have to either speak German or Japanese this day. Being happy that we speak mostly English today.
Happy Independence Day to all of you out there!
